Eckhart Tolle

Born in Germany / February 6, 1948 / Modern Teacher and Writer In 1977 at the age of 29, Tolle experienced an “inner transformation” after suffering long periods of suicidal depression after which he viewed the world around him “in a state of deep bliss”. It was a mind-altering experience that changed the course of his life forever, eventually leading him to become one of the most popular and highly sought out spiritual teachers on the planet. Eckhart’s profound yet simple teachings have helped countless people throughout the world find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives.

At the core of the teachings lies the transformation of consciousness, a spiritual awakening that he sees as the next step in human evolution. An essential aspect of this awakening consists in transcending our ego-based state of consciousness. According to Tolle, this is a prerequisite not only for personal happiness but also for the ending of violent conflict endemic on our planet”.

Eckhart Tolle is the author of the New York Times bestseller The Power of Now and highly acclaimed follow-up A New Earth, which are widely regarded as two of the most influential spiritual books of our time. Eckhart’s profound yet simple teachings have helped countless people throughout the world find inner peace and greater fulfillment in their lives.

Today on Luminosity we’re bringing light to what it means when Eckhart Tolle says “It is through gratitude for the present moment that the spiritual dimension of life opens up.” We’re going to take a deep dive into what this really means, and how we can apply it to our own lives in a way that will amplify our daily living.

First off, we need to clarify what the “spiritual dimension of life” is. The spiritual dimension is essentially all the good stuff; it is nothing short of the highest most fervent feelings of joy, bliss, and wonder. It is that experience of ‘heaven on earth’, and it is through gratitude that we can execute our highest thoughts, dreams, and Selfs unto this realm.

Through the expression of gratitude, we can self-actualize our full creative potential and in this process, we experience ourselves as the powerful beings that we truly are. This is because gratitude unleashes our capacity to manifest and create whatever we desire to have more of in the world. No longer are things a fragment of our imagination, but real tangible truth.

Yet how is this so? Because thought is creative. Word is creative. Action is creative. Thought begets word, which begets action. Thought, word, and deed are the three levels of creation. Ultimately, what Eckhart means, is that by virtue of gratitude one is immersing themselves in thoughts of love, joy, wonder, magic, and bliss, and, via the mechanics of law of attraction, those thoughts become. What procures then is a manifested experience of those thoughts and a reality of love, joy, and wonder. This is the “spiritual dimension” as Eckhart puts it. This is the experience of heaven on earth. All because we believed it to be so, and so it is.

Our ability to create is our Godly power if you will, and in our expression and utilization of this, we are opening ourselves up into the spiritual dimension. This process activates the Godliness in ourselves and provides the experience of God: the God that is in us, and also the God that is everywhere around us. However, if this is the case, then why aren’t we all running around in abundance living our dreams? It is because we haven’t yet mastered the workings of gratitude and choose too often to operate from a place of lack – because we have forgotten our creative power.

Gratitude slots into place in the divine irony that we cannot have anything we want, we can only experience whatever we have. This is because the very act of wanting something pushes it away. You’ll always receive the ‘wanting’ because the Universe has no choice by its law of attraction to bring you the direct manifestation of your thought – which is the wishfulness and wanting. Your words are its command. We mustn’t say “I want success.” We must say “I am successful.” Think about all the successes in your life that you do have! I’m sure there is an abundance of successes if we really think about it.

Logistically, nothing is ever going to happen if we don’t believe it can. I’m not saying that it’s an overnight job (but it can be!) Some of our greatest desires may feel like other-dimensional whimsy floating along on a cloud at this point, however, if we repeat a thought or say a word over and over again, not once, not twice, but dozens, hundreds, thousands of times – this unleashes a tremendous amount of creative power. We must first trust that we can anchor down our clouds into our living reality and that nothing is out of our reach – it only takes a little time to solidify them into belief.

Moreover, the reason why affirmations and acting ‘as if something is before it is’ often feel fraudulent and don’t come to fruition is that they are merely statements of what we want to be true. For affirmations to work they need to be statements of something we already know to be true. And the best affirmation is a statement of gratitude and appreciation. Gratitude is the golden key; it unlocks the doors of creation on all levels.

An obstacle also lies in the fact that we give mixed signals to the Universe. We say we want one thing, but then act in a cheapening way. We deeply, at the core, know ourselves to be the magnificent souls that we are, and yet we just can’t quite believe it. We conduct our lives from an opposing set of ‘human rules’ that we have delegated to ourselves – a set of rules that say we’re less than, that we need to prove or achieve in order to be loved. But it’s just not true. And the sooner that we can truly, madly, deeply believe that we are capable of all that we most desire, the sooner it will come screeching into our lives in full glory.

Our souls came to this planet in the shape of a human vessel for but one reason: to experience. To experience the pure light that we know ourselves to be conceptually, but not yet experientially. It is through experience that we reap deep knowing, and turn concepts into truth. And it is only through creating the grandest visions of ourselves that we may solidify the soul’s deep knowledge of just how magnificent we are. Yet if we only know ourselves to be mediocre with thoughts such as “well that doesn’t happen to people like me” we reserve the grandest things in life for others. If we believe ourselves to be mediocre, then that we will be, and that’s not the purpose of the soul. We ask, time and time again, what is the purpose of life, and this is just it. It really is to ‘shoot for the stars and to bring them down onto earth.
